# Camelot User Conference 2026: Digital BOL Meets Excalibur WMS

 by [**Darrion Edwards**](https://blog.opendock.com/author/darrion-edwards) on 28 October, 2026

**Key Takeaways**

- Camelot UC26 brought 3PL teams to Charlotte, NC, October 14th to 16th, 2026.
- Opendock and Excalibur WMS now share BOL data, so check-out goes paperless.
- Our session covered driver ID checks, EBOL, SmartGate, and AI scheduling.
- Shared Camelot customers are next in line for digital BOL signing at their sites.

The Camelot User Conference (UC26) is where 3PL teams that run Camelot’s Excalibur warehouse management system (WMS) work through their most practical questions: how to move trucks through the yard faster, how to cut paperwork at the dock, and how to give shipper customers a better experience. Since every attendee runs the same WMS, it’s a natural place for Opendock to show what a connected dock looks like in practice. This year’s conference ran October 14th to 16th, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Loadsmart returned as a Platinum Sponsor with Opendock front and center. Nate Allan, VP, Enterprise & Partnerships; Tyler Walton, Enterprise Digital Sales Account Manager; and Kousha Massoumi, Product Marketing Manager, spent the week with Camelot customers in the main lobby, at the new Camelot Customer Experience Center, and in our Vendor Tech Session on Thursday afternoon. The focus this year was a capability built together with Camelot: [digital bill of lading (BOL) signing](https://loadsmart.navattic.com/ox12304f1?g=cmq126pol011z04k42fxsb3l7&s=1), connected end to end between Opendock and Excalibur WMS.

## **What Is the Camelot User Conference?**

The Camelot User Conference is Camelot 3PL Software’s event for the 3PL owners, operators, and warehouse leaders who run Excalibur WMS. The 2026 edition brought three days of training, product sessions, workshops, and networking, all built around getting more out of Excalibur.

Camelot is a key Opendock partner, and this year's agenda covered application programming interfaces (APIs), electronic data interchange (EDI), artificial intelligence (AI), carrier integrations, and business intelligence. Keynote speaker Bob Byrnes, who brings more than 30 years of logistics experience, outlined the market conditions shaping 3PLs and what customers will expect over the next three to five years.

## **What Opendock Showed at the Camelot Customer Experience Center**

New this year, the Camelot Customer Experience Center gave attendees a hands-on look at how Camelot and its technology partners support a connected 3PL warehouse. At the Opendock station, visitors walked through the full driver journey themselves:

- **Driver self check-in at the gate.** The driver checks in on a tablet, and Opendock validates the load type against the scheduled appointment.
- **Two-way text message communication.** Drivers receive SMS updates when they check in, with their information captured ahead of time.
- **BOL generated in Excalibur WMS.** Check-in data flows directly into Excalibur to create the BOL, with no rekeying.
- **Digital signature and check-out.** Once the shipment is processed, the BOL is sent back to Opendock automatically for the driver's signature and check-out.

> We are at our partner's user conference, Camelot's, showcasing our EBOL functionality with the integration we built with their Excalibur WMS. We're super excited that we built this integration together. I think it's going to drive a lot of great stories for our current shared customers.

## **What Did the Opendock Vendor Tech Session Cover?**

Our Vendor Tech Session, "Opendock at Camelot: How Dock and Yard Work Is Changing," walked Camelot customers through the move from manual scheduling to connected, automated dock and yard workflows. The 50-minute session ran on Thursday, October 15th, and used the Opendock and Camelot integration as a real example throughout, with the goal of keeping things educational.

### How Dock Scheduling Has Changed

Dock scheduling has moved from one spreadsheet per building to [a single schedule connected to the WMS](https://blog.opendock.com/dock-scheduling-wms-tms-erp-integration). The session traced each step of that shift:

- **Spreadsheet.** One file and one owner, with appointments made by phone and email and changes sitting in one person's inbox.
- **Shared calendar.** Everyone can see it, but someone still types every appointment in.
- **Self-service booking.** Carriers pick from open slots, and door and hour rules are checked on every booking.
- **Connected to the WMS.** Orders and appointments stay in step, so everyone works from one schedule.

### Gate Operations and Driver ID Validation

Automated check-in and check-out record each step of the gate process against the appointment as it happens. During a live product walkthrough, attendees followed a truck from arrival through check-in, [driver ID validation](https://blog.opendock.com/driver-id-verification), two-way SMS updates, arrival at the door, and check-out.

[![Take the full Opendock platform tour](https://blog.opendock.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Product%20Tour_Opendock.png?width=1200&height=475&name=Product%20Tour_Opendock.png)](https://loadsmart.navattic.com/3i65081z?g=cmpc89f2f005t04l87885auga&s=0)

### How BOL Data Moves Between Systems (EBOL)

With [electronic bill of lading (EBOL)](https://blog.opendock.com/electronic-bol-signing-gate-checkout), Opendock and Camelot's Excalibur WMS exchange BOL data directly. Order and shipment details come from the WMS, and the BOL and appointment status go back, so there's no printing, scanning, or retyping at the dock office. A short video showed that flow from start to finish.

### Where Yard Management Is Heading

The session closed the loop on the yard with a high-level look at where yard visibility and automation are going:

- Knowing where every trailer is without a yard walk.
- Gate, dock, and yard sharing one record of each visit.
- Routine moves planned ahead instead of called over the radio.
- Guided yard checks (inventory, asset, spot, and area) done from a phone, with missing trailers flagged the moment they're confirmed.

[Opendock SmartGate](https://opendock.com/en/products/smartgate/) adds AI cameras at the gate that record the trailer or container number, chassis number, license plate, DOT number, timestamps, and 360-degree images. That record gives teams visual proof when something is disputed, lets carriers know there's a record, reduces manual entry errors, and supports contactless driver self check-in.

### AI and Automation in Scheduling and Analytics

AI-assisted tools are starting to show up in dock and yard operations, and the session showed two early use cases. The first was a short video of automated bulk data migration: paste a scheduling spreadsheet into your AI tool, tell it to book the appointments, and it creates every one. The second connected dock data to the AI tool a team already uses, such as Claude, ChatGPT, or a business intelligence (BI) tool, so operators can ask questions like:

- Which carriers are consistently late at our Atlanta facility?
- Where are no-shows spiking, and what's causing it?
- Build a warehouse performance dashboard for our next QBR.
- List all containers in the yard by trailer dwell time.

## **What Were Attendees Talking About?**

Most conversations at the Customer Experience Center and our sponsor tables came back to removing paper and manual steps at the dock. These were the themes we heard most:

- **Paper at the dock.** Printing, signing, and filing BOLs still slows down check-out, so seeing the signature happen digitally, with the document generated in the WMS operators already use, resonated.
- **Gate check-in visibility.** Teams want to [know exactly when a driver arrives](https://blog.opendock.com/gate-management) and get alerts on screen instead of chasing updates by phone or radio.
- **Tools that plug into Excalibur WMS.** Attendees were most interested in tools that connect directly to Excalibur instead of adding another screen for their teams to manage.
- **Dock configuration support.** Existing shared customers brought practical questions about setting up docks and notifications, and our account management team is following up with each of them.

> We partner with Opendock for their excellent dock scheduling tools, but also we've been able to bring to market with them this digital signature capture for Bills of Lading, which is going to revolutionize our customer experience with checking out of the shipments with the carriers.

> **What's Next for Opendock and Camelot Customers**

Digital BOL signing is now integrated with Excalibur WMS, which gives Camelot customers a path from driver check-in to signed paperwork without leaving their existing workflow. Our next step is working directly with shared customers to roll it out at their sites, starting with the warehouses that raised their hands at UC26.

Thank you to the Camelot team for a well-run conference and for building the Customer Experience Center, and to every operator who stopped by to try the demo. See you at UC27.
